Product Care Guide

Our products are designed with quality, comfort and longevity in mind. The Product Care guide informs on how to prolong the life of your product and ensure the overall quality and appearance over time.

We always recommend saving the original packaging and filling in your products with tissue paper in-between wears. This will prevent any dust and discolouration from affecting the leather, especially important with lighter colour materials and more delicate textures like silk and suede.

General Care

Most of our footwear, handbags and small leather goods are crafted from high-quality natural leather, prized for its comfort, beauty, and resilience. With proper care, you can extend the lifespan of these items.

Genuine leather has unique textures and colour variations that enhance its character. The leather's finish will determine its care needs. Leather softens with use and will age naturally, developing a patina over time. To preserve it, avoid contact with rough surfaces, moisture, heat, and chemicals. If leather becomes wet, blot with a light-coloured, absorbent cloth and allow it to air dry. Clean with baby wipes, then polish with a dry cloth and leather balm. Use a clear polish to maintain the unique color.

Some leathers may be sensitive to colour transfer, especially in humid conditions. Please take care when wearing a dark-coloured leather item together with light-coloured garments and vice versa.

Suede

Our suede is a soft and luxurious material but requires extra care. While we aim to minimize colour transfer, it's a natural trait of suede. Protect it with a spray coat, especially for items like winter boots prone to more exposure. Always test the spray on a small, inconspicuous area. Clean suede by brushing gently and use a suede eraser for stains. Store in a dust bag to preserve the condition.

Metallic & Hologram Leather

This leather is developed especially for BY FAR to have a soft hand feel and a distinctive sheen achieved through the application of a coloured film on the surface of the leather.

As it is a natural article, some minor variations of the surface tone and grain may occur, and they should be considered precious characteristics and not faults.

Hairy Leather & Fur

This is natural hair on article, so there may be very slight differences in colour and texture uniformity, even within the same skin. The fur then has been artificially dyed and treated. As with all hair/fur leathers, it is a delicate material, especially against rubbing. For this reason, there may be some slight loss of hair over time with use.

PU / LAC & PVC

These materials have a shiny, polished appearance but are prone to scratches and bending. Clean gently with a soft cloth and store in a cool, dry place to prevent damage from heat or humidity.

Satin & Crystals

The luxurious pairing of satin and crystals is desirable but delicate, so handle with extra care for longer product life. Handle with care and store in their original packaging to protect them from damage. Avoid contact with rough surfaces and objects that might snag.

As with any leather items, store your BY FAR styles in a cool dry place.

In general, to maintain the overall appearance and life of your leather bag avoid overfilling it with heavy items. Cleaning it at least once a month is recommended.

Most BY FAR shoes are made with nubuck or smooth leather soles for comfort, breathability and timeless style. Wear and tear is only natural and is part of the charm of your styles. If the leather outsole wears out, the front part and the heel can be changed, and the edges evened out by a specialist, who can also add a thin protective rubber sole, if you deem it necessary.

Hardware

Be protective of hardware as any contact can damage the shine or scratch the surface of your products. To keep hardware looking shiny, always use a dry cloth to polish. Ensure that the chain is not twisting or rubbing against the product.

Follow the care instructions on the garment label. Allow enough space between hangers in your wardrobe, especially between printed garments and other clothes. If too squashed, garments might transfer color to one another.

Always check the ironing instructions on your care label to avoid disappointment or damage to your clothes. Some fibers require very low temperature to keep their original appearance. Dry clean when necessary.

Knitwear & Jerseys

To preserve the length and shape of your knitted and jersey pieces, we advise you to always keep them folded and never to hang them, as the materials can stretch easily. Dry clean when necessary.

Denim

With time and wash, the color of your denim pieces might change – this is a natural reaction of the fabric. In general, denim clothes should be washed less often. We recommend spot cleaning and a gentle cold wash with the garment inside out to prevent colour fading. To preserve the original colour for longer time, dry clean, but always refer to the care instructions on the label.

Leather

To preserve the original appearance of your leather garments, do not fold them, but always keep them on a hanger. Use soft or padded clip hanger for bottom pieces such as skirts and trousers to avoid marks on the waistbands. Always store your leather garments away from direct sun light to preserve their original color.
